Summit volunteers - easy to spot, easy to talk to.

With over 600 volunteers posted around all the Summit sites, Summit guests will find help available everywhere, all the time. They’ll be easy to spot too because Latvia’s NATO Summit volunteers will be nattily dressed in eye-catching NATO color accessories.

You’ll know our volunteers by their distinctive NATO Riga Summit ties, scarves, caps, jackets and jerseys. If you have any questions, need help to get somewhere or just want a helping hand, don’t hesitate to ask them. Volunteers will also be posted at all checkpoints and can help you with your equipment or other tasks. Volunteers working outdoors will be sporting comfortable Riga Summit jackets, while indoors the young male and female Summit hosts will be wearing ties or scarves in NATO blue; in addition, volunteers in crisp blue jerseys and “IT” caps will be ready to solve your technical problems at any time.

The first question you may want to ask them when you arrive is how to pronounce the word ‘paldies’ – it’s the Latvian word for ‘thank you’. That should come in real handy.

"Prince Philip and I begin today in Vilnius our first visit to the Baltic States to mark the achievements of all three nations in these recent years. You have emerged from the shadow of the Soviet Union and blossomed as sovereign states, taking up your rightful places in the international community and as respected members of the European Union and NATO.  It is a transformation - political, economic and social - for which there are few parallels in the history of Europe

Queen of the United Kingdom
