Show the best of Latvia to the guests of the NATO Summit and the whole world

With the motto “The world can see us. Show the best!“ a photographic competition has opened on the Internet portal DELFI in which photographs of moments from life in Latvia will be presented to show the guests of the NATO Summit and the whole world, the best of Latvia as seen through the eyes of the people of Latvia.

During the two weeks from November 6 to November 20, everybody will have the opportunity to capture special photographic moments from everyday life in Latvia with their mobile phone camera or other cameras and send the photographs to the DELFI editorial office adding the date it was taken, the place, time, and title of the photograph. After arriving in Riga, each of the 5000 NATO Summit guests will form his/her own impressions of Riga, Latvia and the people of Latvia. This will be an opportunity for all of us, to show our guests and the world a bit more than just a brief glimpse of the Gulf of Riga as seen from an airplane window, the information received from discussions and conferences, the pleasures from the hospitality received and impressions of the streets of Riga and its souvenirs.

From the photographs that are submitted, DELFI and the NATO Summit Latvia Task Force will produce a “Latvian Life” photo album and the best photographs will receive awards. A jury will decide which of the takers of the best three photographs will receive a laptop computer, a digital photo camera and a business class mobile phone as prizes awarded by ”Parex Bank", the main sponsor of the NATO Riga Summit support committee. The jury will also award fifteen consolation prizes being NATO Riga Summit souvenirs contributed by summit organisers. The most popular photograph as judged by the NATO Summit organizers will be awarded the “People’s Voice” prize and the favourite photo of the DELFI editorial office will also receive a special prize.

For two days, November 28 and 29, the whole world will have its gaze on Latvia when the meeting of the NATO Heads of State and Government will be held in Riga. The whole world will see us. Show the best we have!
