The Summit meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government will take place at the Olympic Sport Centre (OSC) at 6b Grostonas Street in Riga in November 28 – 29. There will be meetings of 26 Heads of State and Government and discussions on the future of NATO and international security. In addition, the Olympic Sport Centre will house the Summit Media Centre where up to 2000 media representatives from more than 26 states will work for several days.

Decision on exploitation of the Olympic Sport Centre as the venue of NATO Summit was made in March this year after assessing its security, capacity, accessibility and possibility to least hamper everyday life of inhabitants of Riga. The Olympic Sport Centre will be reconstructed to prepare and adjust it particularly to meet the needs of the meeting of 26 Heads of State and Government. Two extensions will be constructed to serve as the meeting premises and the Media centre. After the Summit one of the extensions will be utilized for offices while the other will house a swimming pool contributing to facilities for doing sports in Latvia.

The Olympic Sport Centre of the Latvian Olympic Committee was opened in June 3, 2005 being the only sport complex of such a high standard in the Baltic states. So far different sport events and competitions as well as exhibitions and conferences have taken place at the centre with the total area of 17 411 square meters.
