Mr. Artis Pabriks, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia at the Young Leaders Forum Opening – „Crossing the Bridge to Riga”

To begin with, let me thank you all for coming to Riga where - it is no secret - the NATO Summit is taking place.
It is of the utmost significance for our country that – one would say – the most important gathering of state leaders is being held in Riga right now.
However spectacular and even awesome official NATO meetings may be, it is in the very interests of NATO that alongside, there should be an alternative, fresh and even provocative think-tank or forum for discussing global security concerns and developing new solutions or critically investigating the old ones.

27 Nov, 2006 – Speech by Mr. Toms Baumanis, LATO Chairman at the Young Leaders

Let me welcome all you to Riga, capital of the NATO countries during the two Summit days. We are very pleased to host Young Leaders Forum what will serve as a companion event to the Riga NATO summit by bringing together more than 50 leading young professionals from both sides of the Atlantic to discuss the most pressing challenges currently facing by NATO and its partners around the world.

It is a pleasure for me to be here in Riga today. Although my wife and I mainly came here to discuss preparations for the NATO Summit at the end of November, I am delighted to have this opportunity to talk about NATO with a wide audience in Latvia. And I am especially pleased to see so many people from the younger generation.
