13 Oct - Two NATO Summit hosts meet in Prague

The President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga met the former President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Havel in Prague on October 9th. The meeting gains a especial significance because V.Vike-Freiberga will host the meeting of NATO heads of state and government but V.Havel hosted the Prague Summit in 2002.

46 days remain until 26 NATO Heads of State and Governments will sit down together in Riga to discuss the future of NATO and current issues concerning international security politics. For this purpose a special table is being made and some sections of it have been put together already.

Let me say a few words about NATO's outreach.  Although the Riga Summit is not a summit on NATO enlargement as such, as you know, NATO allies will soon begin drafting exact language on a signal we want to send to countries who aspire NATO membership.  How exactly that signal will look like is a bit difficult to say, but I think I'm not far off the mark if I say it will be an encouraging signal to them.
