Defence minister meets with the NATO Summit Planning Group

27 June, the Minister of Defence Atis Slakteris and the Head of the NATO Summit Organisation Office Edgars Rinkēvičs have met with the NATO Summit Planning Group led by Dr. Bernd Goetze.
The main subjects addressed in the meeting were issues regarding the course of the Summit, and security. “Security is a very important aspect in the organisation of the Summit,” acknowledged A. Slakteris when discussing the NATO involvement in the provision of security.


The Minister of Defence stressed that the NATO Heads of State and Government Meeting would be the right moment to announce that the door of the Alliance is open for new members. Participants of the talks agreed that the Summit should give a clear vision to the international public regarding the Alliance’s future.
Dr. Goetze praised the input of the Latvian party and expressed gratitude for the work done so far in the organisation of the Summit.
