Ships from NATO states will arrive in Liepāja

On Friday, August 25, STANDING NATO MCM GROUP1 (SNMCMG1) will arrive in Liepāja in an unofficial visit. The SNMCMG1 is composed of 9 ships from eight different countries: Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom, Poland, and Germany. The purpose of this visit is to facilitate cooperation among Naval Forces of different countries, as well as to take an opportunity to provide recreation facilities for sailors.
August 25, at 12:00 a press conference will held on the ship “Werra" with participation of the SNMCMG1 commander – Commander Senior Grade Andreas Stricker, SNMCMG1 Headquarters Senior Officer – Lieutenant Commander Trommelen and Chief of the Naval Forces Flotilla Headquarters – Lieutenant Commander V. Stanka.
During the visit a protocol meeting at the Liepāja City Council, lunch for ship and unit commanders, as well as different sports activities and sightseeing in Liepāja City for crew members will be organized.
August 25 - 26 from 2PM till 4PM ships will be opened for visitors at the quayside 46 at the port of Liepāja. Visitors of the ship will have an opportunity to purchase different souvenirs with logos of units.
From January till May, 2007, Latvian Naval Forces’ mine – detector M03 “Namejs” will also become incorporated in this group.
Media representatives will have an opportunity to participate in the press conference in August 25, at 12:00 on the ship “Werra" at the quayside 46 of the port of Liepāja (near Terrabalt). Media representatives are requested to sign up by sending name, surname, personal identification number and the name institution to Iveta Kraule till August 24, 12:00.
