Prime Minister of Latvia Aigars Kalvitis will visit the NATO Response Force Maritime Group’s ships the USS Monterey and HMS York in the Riga Export Terminal on Friday, November 17.

The USS Monterey and HMS York are part of the NATO Response Force Maritime Group 2, commanded by US Rear Admiral Groothousen. The ships will participate in security operations during the Riga Summit. The primary mission of both the USS Monterey and the HMS York is protection against threats in the sky, but their modern radars and equipment will be used to protect Latvia’s territorial seas and skies during the Summit.

United States Ambassador to Latvia Catherine Todd Bailey and British Ambassador to Latvia Ian Bond will also attend the event.

There will be a photo/video opportunity for media, during which the Prime Minister will greet Rear Admiral Groothousen.

Media representatives are asked to be in the parking lot at the Export Terminal, at Eksporta Street 15, no later than 1:15 PM. Media representatives are also reminded to bring a valid ID with them.

Media representatives are kindly asked to inform the NATO Summit Press Center about their participation by November 16, 4 PM by e-mail summitpress@mod.gov.lv or by phone 7017764.
