The President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga welcomed the NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer in Airport Riga today who arrived to Latvia for the NATO Summit. The President and NATO Secretary-General together attended the NATO Air Force project C-17 in the Airport Riga. In the airplane C-17 the President stressed to the journalists how important it was for Latvia to see the potential and capacity of the NATO Air Force on its land as it simultaneously was a confirmation of the NATO guarantees for the sovereignty and security of Latvia. The President underlined that Latvia is pleased to be a part of the important project and will continue to take an active part in the joint projects of NATO together with its partners.
