11 Oct - Estonia to decide on its contribution to the security arrangements of the NATO Riga Summit
On Thursday, October 12, the Goverment of Estonia will decide on the assistance Estonia will provide as its contribution to the security arrangements during the NATO Summit in Riga, thereby responding to a request by the Prime Minister of Latvia Aigars Kalvītis to his Estonian counterpart.

22 Sep - More than 2,300 applications received for NATO Summit Volunteers
2,361 people from across the country have applied to be among the volunteers who will give first hand help at the Summit of NATO Heads of State and Government. The assistance of volunteers is essential during the last weeks leading up to every important event and Latvia can report to the international community that it has received a staggering four applications for every available volunteer position.

Support within Latvian society for Latvia's membership of NATO continues to grow and has currently reached its highest level ever. The most recent survey by the market and public opinion research company Latvijas fakti shows that Latvia's membership in NATO is supported by 78.8% of the population.

The NATO Riga Summit Internet Website, which is accessible to Latvia and the world –
www.rigasummit.lv – has been operating for three months and ever more increasing attention from the whole world is being turned to it. In August, people from 97 different countries visited the NATO Summit Homepage and it has therefore also contributed to an expansion of an understanding of Riga and Latvia.

4 Sep - Selection of NATO Summit Volunteers begins
Approximately 600 volunteers from the whole country will have an opportunity to be engaged in the organizational process of the Summit of NATO Heads of State and Government, thus gaining a unique experience of participating in an international event at a high level, being at the epicenter of events and experiencing things that will not be available to others. Therefore, starting from today, September 4, the Summit of NATO Heads of State and Government Task Force will start the selection process for volunteers who will assist during the NATO Summit.

As the new school year begins, the Summit of NATO Heads of State and Government Task Force in co-operation with the Latvian Transatlantic Organization (LATO), Art Education Centre “Three Colours” and the Centre for Curriculum Development and Examinations (ISEC) invites children from primary schools to participate in a visual art competition called “Learn about NATO!”.
