5 Jul - Summer school participants at St Petersburg discuss NATO Summit in Riga
During July 3-7, the Centre of International and Regional Policy in St Petersburg is holding a summer school „Borders of Russia in the changing world”.
Ms Ieva Kupce, the head of Public Diplomacy section of the NATO Summit Task Force in Latvia, was invited to give a speech at the second day of the discussion rounds to inform the summer school participants about the upcoming NATO Summit in Riga and related events.

28 Jun - Defence minister meets with the NATO Summit Planning Group
27 June, the Minister of Defence Atis Slakteris and the Head of the NATO Summit Organisation Office Edgars Rinkēvičs have met with the NATO Summit Planning Group led by Dr. Bernd Goetze.
The main subjects addressed in the meeting were issues regarding the course of the Summit, and security. “Security is a very important aspect in the organisation of the Summit,” acknowledged A. Slakteris when discussing the NATO involvement in the provision of security.

19 Jun - Latvian-Belgian defence co-operation discussed
Today, 19 May, the Minister of Defence Atis Slakteris has met with the Minister of Defence of the Belgian Kingdom André Flahaut.
During their meeting, both ministers praised the successful co-operation established between the Ministries of Defence and the Armed Forces of the two countries. Atis Slakteris thanked André Flahaut for the technical assistance provided for the Latvian Naval Force regarding mine-searching operations and training of the Latvian mine-searching specialists.

13 Jun - Allocation of official holidays for State Budgetary Authorities during NATO Summit approved
On June 13, the order of the Cabinet of Ministers drafted by the Ministry of Defence ”On Allocation of Holidays” was approved stipulating November 28 and 29 as official holidays in authorities funded by the State budget, as well as recommending allocation of holidays also for local authorities, businessmen and organizations.
