6 Jul - Public Diplomacy projects for NATO Riga Summit to be discussed

The Head of NATO Summit Latvia Task Force Edgars Rinkēvičs together with press and public diplomacy staff members of the Task Force will visit Brussels on 7 July to participate in consultations with NATO Public Diplomacy Division representatives regarding aspects of the organization of the meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government.

4 Jul - Latvia participates in NATO Response Force rotation process

From July 1, 2006 until January 11, 2007 Latvia with its Explosive Ordnance Disposal Section of the National Armed Forces (NAF) composed of 19 soldiers for the first time participates in rotation process of NATO Response Force (NRF).

5 Jul - Summer school participants at St Petersburg discuss NATO Summit in Riga

During July 3-7, the Centre of International and Regional Policy in St Petersburg is holding a summer school „Borders of Russia in the changing world”.

Ms Ieva Kupce, the head of Public Diplomacy section of the NATO Summit Task Force in Latvia, was invited to give a speech at the second day of the discussion rounds to inform the summer school participants about the upcoming NATO Summit in Riga and related events.

„NATO Summit will take place in Riga,” the Head of NATO Summit Latvia Task Force Edgars Rinkēvičs emphasized today at the press conference about the results of the NATO Summit Task Force Planning Team’s visit to Riga. NATO Summit Task Force has learned about the Summit organization process and is satisfied so far.

28 Jun - Defence minister meets with the NATO Summit Planning Group

27 June, the Minister of Defence Atis Slakteris and the Head of the NATO Summit Organisation Office Edgars Rinkēvičs have met with the NATO Summit Planning Group led by Dr. Bernd Goetze.
The main subjects addressed in the meeting were issues regarding the course of the Summit, and security. “Security is a very important aspect in the organisation of the Summit,” acknowledged A. Slakteris when discussing the NATO involvement in the provision of security.

27 Jun - NATO Summit Planning Unit to visit Riga

In order to discuss the progress of the Riga Summit of NATO Heads of State and Government organization NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government Planning Unit from the NATO Headquarters under the guidance of Dr. Bernd Goetze visits Riga from June 27 – 30.  

25 Jun - The Minister of Defence to participate in TV programme about NATO Summit on Rēzekne TV

On Tuesday, June 27, the Minister of Defence Atis Slakteris leaves for Rēzekne to participate in Rēzekne Television programme called ”Honour to Serve Latvia!” devoted to the upcoming NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government in Riga, November 2006. 

19 Jun - Latvian-Belgian defence co-operation discussed

Today, 19 May, the Minister of Defence Atis Slakteris has met with the Minister of Defence of the Belgian Kingdom André Flahaut.
During their meeting, both ministers praised the successful co-operation established between the Ministries of Defence and the Armed Forces of the two countries. Atis Slakteris thanked André Flahaut for the technical assistance provided for the Latvian Naval Force regarding mine-searching operations and training of the Latvian mine-searching specialists.

13 Jun - Allocation of official holidays for State Budgetary Authorities during NATO Summit approved

On June 13, the order of the Cabinet of Ministers drafted by the Ministry of Defence ”On Allocation of Holidays” was approved stipulating November 28 and 29 as official holidays in authorities funded by the State budget, as well as recommending allocation of holidays also for local authorities, businessmen and organizations.
