Riga Welcomes the NATO Summit

On Monday, 22 May at 11:45 hrs presentation of Riga - the venue of the upcoming meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government - will be held at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, attended by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Latvia Atis Slakteris and NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Shefer.

It is the first time when the Minister of Defense and NATO Secretary General will present the official logo of Riga NATO Summit with motto Riga - Historical cross-road to the international public - NATO Ambassadors and representatives of NATO Delegations, NATO international staff. The idea offered by Latvian artist Uldis Freimanis for the competition of Riga NATO Summit logo was chosen by NATO Secretary General. The logo reflects Riga skyline from the left bank of the river Daugava.

As a joint event the Latvian Ambassador to NATO Jānis Eichmanis will inaugurate a photo exhibition Riga welcomes the NATO Summit presenting Riga through photos from private collections of the staff of Latvia's Delegation to NATO. The guests will also have the opportunity to listen to jazz music performed by Latvian National Armed Forces orchestra.

The presentation of Riga as the venue of NATO Summit is organized by Latvia's Delegation to NATO to promote Latvia and Riga and show how Riga is getting ready to host 26 Heads of State and Government in November this year. During his visit to NATO, the Minister of Defense has planned to meet with NATO Secretary General in order to discuss NATO Summit related issues.
