Art teachers will study NATO and its brand
16.08.2006
During the following weeks almost 40 art teachers from Latvia will study NATO and the history of its brand in a series of seminars called “The way from idea till image and brand” organized by the NATO Summit Latvia Task Force in cooperation with the Art Education Centre “Trīs Krāsas” (Three Colours).
The first seminar will take place in Riga from August 16 till 17 and later also in Daugavpils - from August 22 till 23. During these seminars the director of the Latvian Institute Ojārs Kalniņš will tell the teachers about NATO mission and its basic principles, as well as the history of the organization’s visual symbol. Whereas during practical classes art teachers under the guidance of artists Jānis Krievs and Baiba Sprance will learn to create a graphic design from an idea till a graphic sign.
The seminars for art teachers introduce an art education project “Learn about NATO!” with an aim to inform teachers and pupils about NATO mission and encourage them to visualize political issues in an up-to-date manner. Afterwards, teachers will bring their knowledge obtained in the seminars to their schools in Liepāja, Talsi, Tukums, Jelgava, Bauska, Rīga, Cēsis, Valmiera, Gulbene, Daugavpils, Krāslava and other places in order to prepare their pupils for the upcoming art competition “Learn about NATO!” to be held in September.
The art education project ”Learn about NATO!” is organized by the NATO Summit Latvia Task Force in cooperation with the Latvian Transatlantic Organization (LATO), the Art Education Centre ”Trīs Krāsas” and the Centre for Curriculum Development and Examination. In the framework of the project, besides the teachers’ seminar and an art competition for pupils of primary school also creative workshops for inhabitants of Riga and others concerned will be organized shortly before the summit.
